Kilian Olen is a passionate engineer and proud member of the College Academy at Broward College!
As of May 2025, Kilian is a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where he earned a Bachelor’s in Aerospace Engineering (Astronautics Concentration) and a Bachelor’s in Engineering Physics (Spacecraft Systems Concentration), along with minors in Applied Mathematics and Computer-Aided Design/Manufacturing.
Throughout his academic journey, Kilian has gained valuable industry experience. In his junior year, he worked on a research project with Honeywell, where he developed a diagnostic tool to improve the process of repairing malfunctioning inertial navigation systems, saving the company an estimated $250,000 annually. His hard work earned him an opportunity at the NASA Glenn Research Center, where he contributed to modeling the X-66A and the NASA Electric Aircraft Testbed and led outreach efforts like AIAA Young Astronauts Day.
Kilian also had the chance to participate in the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s exchange program and the Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Institute Summer Scholars Program. During this time, he mentored Hazelwood residents in developing a smart air quality sensor network, making STEM concepts accessible to underserved communities.
Looking ahead, Kilian will join the John Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory where he will work on intelligent autonomous systems. His ultimate goal is to contribute to NASA’s mission by advancing robotics research and solving complex space challenges.
We are incredibly proud of Kilian’s dedication to engineering and his passion for using technology to make a difference. His journey is a shining example of the impact that hard work and a love for learning can have.
